| John did not die of thirst only a few feet from water. The story came from a school essay contest in Vale. At the time only the lower stone, carved by the blacksmith in Henderson's party, marked the grave. The teacher asked the children to write a story giving a possible reason for his death. A fourth grade girl won the contest with this theory, the story was published in the local paper, and the rest, as they say, is history? Most reliable historians believe he died of measles or cholera. | |

Henderson's grave is just one mile south of Vale, on Sand Hollow Road, off of Lytle Blvd. It involves a walk of about a city block. A good site worth seeing. I believe there is a sign on Lytle Blvd. to guide you. |
